Navratri: Nine Nights of the Divine Mother

We all hope for good health, a secure livelihood and the wisdom to make good decisions. Navratri, the "nine nights" of the Divine Mother, gathers these hopes into prayer. For nine nights, families across India honour the Mother as the power that protects, sustains and guides all life. In Varanasi, our pandits mark these days with the recitation of the Durga Saptashati and with yagya, praying for the families who have asked to be remembered. Here is what Navratri means, and why its blessings speak to everyday life, wherever we live.
